Reflections
2. September 2011 by admin.
Recently I had the privilege of peeking inside the mind/heart of a new friend through his writing. This experience was unique in that he read aloud a selection from his works. It gave me more than the printed word could ever provide as I watched the expression on his face, listened to the changing inflection of his voice as he traversed the more personal passages.
What came of this reading was not only an appreciation for the content, but I believe a much deeper and personal connection with the material. More than I ever could have imagined in fact.
This leads me to wonder if there could be any value for similar readings saved to video. In some respects this might resemble the experience of watching a golf game on TV. Those who have interest gain value while others may find boredom as the predominent take-away.
Hmmm.

These two thoughts continue to surface in my mind and resonate in my heart as I pray and contemplate the BR Renovare event.
“We now live in the outcome of a largely unconscious historical drift over many years. Moreover, it is human nature to resist deep inward change, for such change threatens our sense of identity.” Dallas Willard, D.C.
These phrases stand out; largely unconcsious (make it conscious), resist deep inward change (acknowledge, confess, open up the resistance), sense of identity (my identity is made in his image, fallen, sinner, chosen Gentile, grafted in, saved by grace through faith). These thoughts connect every Pastor to each other, where each one is on the same plane before God.
Second quote from Dallas Willard, D.C.
“However, the emphasis all too often is on some point of behavior modification. This is helpfu, but it is not adequate to human life. It does not reach the root of the human problem. That root is the character of the inner life, where Jesus and his call to apprenticeship in the kingdom place the emphasis.”
Behavior Modification is very powerful in the workplace, schools, homes, and churches. The character of the inner life pales in comparison. This shift begins with each one of us, practicing ways and means to open up our inner life for the fullness of the Trinity to have their way with us. And remember the body does not change just by talking to it.

Welcome!
The folks who serve with the Baton Rouge Renovarè board seek to share thoughts and ideas regarding our minstry to the people and churches in this area.
We’ll use this blog as our forum to contribute perspective, prayers and observations. We invite you to become our partner in this effort and we’ll look forward to seeing the fruit that develops.
