What are "Spiritual Practices" ... ?

These are the practices seen in Jesus' life and the history of the Church. These practices, or spiritual disciplines, mature us in traditions of life and faith. We have defined them as:

bullet Contemplative - The Prayer-Filled Life
bullet Holiness - The Virtuous Life
bullet Charismatic - The Spirit Empowered Life
bullet Social Justice - The Compassionate Life
bullet Evangelical - The Word Centered Life
bullet Incarnational - The Sacramental Life

How can I learn to apply these to my life ... ?

At the heart of the RENOVARÉ experience are Spiritual Formation Groups that gather for the purpose of mutual nurture and encouragement. These small groups center on an "Order of Meeting" which contains what we call the RENOVARÉ Covenant that emphasizes personal commitment to renewal, Common Disciplines that we practice consistently, and Questions of Examen that measure spiritual progress. Every person in each group is committed to one another's spiritual growth.

We recommend that RENOVARÉ Spiritual Formation Groups meet weekly. These gatherings are characterized by grace and mercy, love and support. We seek to obey the word of Scripture to "confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed" (James 5:16). When failings, shortcomings, and sins are shared, we do not condemn, but prayerfully seek to minister the healing forgiveness of Jesus Christ. We remember what was said of our Lord that he would not "break a bruised reed, or quench a smoldering wick" (Matt. 12:20). We too refuse to trample on the weak or snuff out the smallest hope.

What happens to donations ... ?

The integrity of any organization is reflected in its financial policies. We believe that all money for the work of RENOVARÉ is given sacrificially, and we are determined to be responsible stewards of this generosity. Therefore, we have established strict financial guidelines to insure the integrity of our efforts.

  1. We will receipt all donations.
  2. If we offer books, tapes, or other materials for a suggested contribution, we will receipt the amount given above the retail price of the product plus shipping and handling costs.
  3. We urge everyone to give first to their local church (or wherever they are being nurtured spiritually) and to the poor before giving to RENOVARÉ.
  4. We will communicate our financial needs to our constituency as clearly and as truthfully as possible. We will not inflate or overstate our situation, nor create a crisis to boost income.
  5. We will live within our means. One thing we refuse to do is overextend and overspend ourselves and then beg for God's people to bail us out. We feel it involves just as much faith to trust God for the money before a purchase as after a purchase. In fact, one way we discern God's will for the ministry of RENOVARÉ is through the financial support of his people.
  6. A CPA regularly audits our books, and an accountant oversees our financial records in accord with accepted accounting procedures and the highest professionalism.
  7. We believe in full disclosure at all times. Our financial reports are available to anyone upon request.
  8. When we make a purchase, we will pay the bill within thirty days. We refuse to subsidize this ministry on the backs of vendors.
  9. We will never sell or rent the mailing list of our supporters.
  10. Whenever we employ paid staff, they will receive equal pay for equal work.
  11. We believe RENOVARÉ was initiated and continues to be sustained by God. While we are eager to follow the Divine whisper at every turn and work with all our might, it is God's business and not ours to prosper or end the work of RENOVARÉ. We rejoice either way.

How can I get my church involved ... ?

Speak with your Pastor and ask him if he would spare about 20 minutes for a local representative to explain the ministry. If your Pastor agrees then contact Alvin Smith at:

or (225) 572-1345 to set up a short meeting with your Pastor.

Serve on Conference Committees

We encourage all to think of people who have the skills to work on a particular committee to suggest those people to the steering committee. [Click here for more information on Committees]

Why is the Renovaré Conference coming to Baton Rouge ... ?

Several spiritual leaders in the greater community came together sensing God inviting the greater church in this area to draw together for a unifying spiritual event. After much prayerful discernment it was determined that the Renovaré Conference would provide the perfect environment for churches of all denominations to gather together in the name of Jesus Christ.

This group invited the Renovaré National group to bring a conference to our state. The invitation was accepted and the schedule was committed. We fully expect to see significant changes in our community as a result of coming together for one weekend as God's Children.
